The ancient discipline of yoga is an excellent way to reduce the stress and muscle tension that fertility patients often feel. Fertile Yoga also helps to improve flexibility, encourage relaxation, improve the clarity of your thinking and your overall feelings of well-being. Because patients who practice yoga regularly feel less stressed and calmer, they are often able to communicate more clearly with their doctors, make more satisfying decisions, and sustain treatment with a more positive perspective.
As part of RMACT’s Integrated Fertility and Wellness Program, we offer ongoing Fertile Yoga classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays at our fertility treatment centers in Trumbull and Norwalk respectively and at YogaSpace in Bethel, CT on Friday evenings. Spouses, partners, friends and family members are welcome to attend. Fertile Yoga classes are free and open to the public.
We are fortunate to have Lisa Rosenthal as a yoga instructor. She is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and the founder of Fertile Yoga. Lisa is RMACT’s Patient Advocate, a new position at RMACT, and also our Blog Writer & Editor-in-Chief on PathtoFertility – a fertility treatment support and news blog.
Additionally, there are yoga studios in almost every town and yoga classes offered at local YMCAs, JCCs, and health clubs. Fertility patients should choose a “gentle” or therapeutic style of yoga, such as Hatha yoga or Viniyoga and should avoid the vigorous “power yoga” or “hot yoga” classes. Lisa is happy to talk to you to guide you to an appropriate class in your hometown.
