by Greg Zola

Mark Leondires, MD Shares Personal and Professional Perspective on April 27 in NYC

describe the imageNORWALK, CT (April 25, 2013) – On April 27 in New York City, Dr. Mark Leondires, Medical Director for Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT) and GayParentsToBe.com, will participate in a panel about surrogacy for LGBT families at the LGBT Family Building Expo. The Expo, which is presented by the Center, is designed to educate the gay and lesbian community about their options for building a family, including adoption, alternative insemination, foster care and surrogacy, as well as discuss the emotional and legal issues. GayParentsToBe.com, which is primarily an informational resource for the LGBT community, is sponsoring the Expo.

“I am proud to share my opinions and expertise as both a dad and a physician at a larger fertility center. I hope to offer to insights, support, and professional expertise to the LGBT community,” says Dr. Mark Leondires, a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist. “As a father and husband, I want to share the joy of being a parent with others in the LGBT community. While it was a hurdle to get started, the rewards are boundless. I hope to use my experience as a fertility doctor to help others understand their medical options when it comes to LGBT family building.”

During the “Family Building Information Session: Surrogacy,” Dr. Leondires will be part of a panel that will share their personal and professional perspectives as experts in psychology, law, insurance and fertility. Dr. Leondires’ goal is to demystify and simplify the process of becoming a parent through surrogacy, including the role of assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

“For more than two decades, Center Families has helped community members create, nurture and grow their families. It has served as a resource at every stage of family life and as a place to visit to mark significant moments,” said Glennda Testone, Executive Director of the Center. “We are proud to serve those who are beginning to build families by hosting the first LGBT Family Building Expo, just as we are proud to support LGBT families at every milestone.”

The Center presents LGBT Family Building Expo on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 208 W 13th St, New York, NY. Admission, which includes a welcome lunch and cocktail reception, is free for members, $35 for non-members. Other notable sessions at The Expo include:

-“Reading and Q&A Session” with Dan Bucatinsky, who is a gay father, actor and author of Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight?

-“Out with Kids,” a session moderated by Angeline Acain, editor and owner of Gay Parent Magazine about being in the workforce as an LGBT parent

-“Navigating Family Building Options: What do you need to know?”
Led by Patricia Mendel, LCSW, attendees will be challenged to think about their own decision making, with the goal of helping them to make informed and appropriate choices.

New State of the ART Fertility Center Opens in Downtown Stamford

Robin Mangieri

by Robin Mangieri

Stamford RMA of CT Fertility Clinics’ 3rd Location | Home to Integrated Fertility and Wellness Center

NORWALK, CT (October 11, 2011) – Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT) is opening a new, convenient location in downtown Stamford at 1290 Summer Street, suite 3200, today.   RMACT – Fairfield County’s leading fertility clinic and egg donation center – offers fertility patients quality care from a team of board-certified reproductive endocrinologists, fertility nurses and other fertility specialists.  In addition, the practice is opening the RMACT Integrated Fertility & Wellness Center, which is the next progression in RMACT’s complementary care, including services such as Fertile Yoga, nutrition counseling, acupuncture, peer support groups, and therapy, both for individuals and couples.

NEW Fertility Clinic | Stamford, CT | State of the ART Fertility ServicesRMACT used patient feedback and independent research to identify Stamford as a viable location.  Along with RMACT’s Danbury and Norwalk locations, RMACT’s Stamford location allows patients flexibility when scheduling appointments near their homes and work in order to better fit their needs.  It also brings new opportunities with many commuters working in Stamford from locations in the surrounding area, including Manhattan and the other New York City boroughs.

“Stamford is a vibrant, young city and we are excited to help the people who live and work here to make their dreams for a family a reality,” says, Dr. Mark Leondires, medical director and lead infertility doctor with RMACT.  “We are also able to respond to our current patients’ interest with our  Integrated Fertility & Wellness services.”

The new Stamford location has considerable space, allowing the fertility practice to grow its Integrated Fertility & Wellness Program by giving it a proper home – and transforming it into a Center.  Over the past decade the practice has been adding services to help patients reduce stress (e.g., Fertile Yoga, peer support groups, therapy) and improve their overall health (e.g., nutrition counseling, acupuncture for fertility).  It now has a robust offering of classes and appointments at various times throughout the week for the greatest accessibility to patients.

As part of the move to Stamford, RMACT will be closing its Cos Cob location.  The patients who have received treatment through this office were alerted this summer about the transition.  Their appointments will continue in Stamford, which is approximately 10 minutes (4.7 miles) north on the Connecticut coast.

It is well known that the mind and body are intricately connected, and that stress dramatically affects physical well-being, including fertility. Infertility is one of the most stressful experiences that many individuals will ever face. It can be life changing to learn about the mind-body connection and the ways of coping with the many layers of stress that is caused by infertility, as well as the stress we all find in our everyday lives.

Each of the 4 workshops teach the basics of mind-body theories, providing you with first-hand experience of several stress-reducing techniques, as well as providing a compassionate, supportive environment in which to develop new ways of coping with infertility. You will gain insight to the habits and coping mechanisms that you are currently relying on that may be exacerbating your stress, find new, healthier coping strategies and develop new friendships with other men and women who are truly able to understand the unique stress of infertility.

*Feb 17th Join us for a discussion on how mindful eating can help us engage in the present moment, while finding peace, happiness and stress reduction.  Let by Carolyn Gundell, RMACT Nutritionist.
