Your Path to Fertility – Basic Tips & Special Events for Getting Pregnant

Tips for Getting PregnantWe describe infertility and baby seeking as a journey or a path. Over six and a half years ago, we named this blog, “PathtoFertility” because we knew that’s what was being sought. Fertility. A baby. A family.

It’s a journey that does include a destination and so it means finding our way there, sometimes with excellent trail markers that are easy to follow and sometimes by blazing new trails.

To carry this metaphor further– how prepared are you? What tools do you take when you embark on a journey?

Maybe a better question is what do you need? After all, you’ve not been on this journey before and we have. And we do have suggestions, basic truths that make this journey more successful and easier to manage.

Tips for Getting Pregnant

Here are three of the most basic of the basic tools that you need on this fertility journey. The building blocks of good health so that when you become pregnant, you are well-prepared for that journey.

1. Rest enough.
What does sleep have to do with this? A lot. Enough time allotted for sleep means that your body has the chance to produce hormones properly. It means that you will be more stable emotionally. It means that if you need to lose or gain weight that you will be able to do so more successfully.

2. Eat properly.
If you’re not sure what that means while trying to conceive or during a fertility treatment cycle (IUI or IVF), then take advantage of the Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT)'s Nutrition program and the two nutritionists at RMACT to explore your food habits. Eating properly can mean very different things for each of us. A consultation with either Carolyn Gundell, MS or Laura Wolfe, RDN, CDE, can ensure that you are eating in a way that is best for you.

3. Drink water. 
You get to drink lots while trying to conceive, which, fortunately, prepares you for drinking plenty while you’re pregnant. Water and other non-un-caffeinated, non-soda drinks are your best sources of hydration. And particularly as we go into the warmer months of the year, water will serve you best.

If you have been diagnosed with PCOS, (polycystic ovarian syndrome), and are or are not trying to become pregnant, please register and come to a special event created just for you. “Living and Thriving with PCOS” in Danbury, CT on April 16, from 6-7:30 pm. Free AMH Fertility Testing 

If you are thinking of a baby someday, not necessarily now, and would like more information about your fertility potential, come and get your free AMH (Anti Mullerian Hormone) tested. First time that RMACT will be doing this free testing in Poughkeepsie, April 26 and if your are in the Stamford, CT area on April 11, from 5-7 pm.  Bring a friend! Register here

Pre-Conception Wellness Seminar

What do you need to do before you become pregnant to have a healthy pregnancy? In this age of enormous information, it’s easy to be led astray. Come to RMACT’s “Pre-Conception Wellness Seminar” on Saturday, April 30th, with Carolyn Gundell, MS. Free and open to the public. Learn more!

About Lisa Rosenthal

Lisa has over thirty years of experience in the fertility field. After her personal infertility journey, she felt dissatisfied with the lack of comprehensive services available to support her. She was determined to help others undergoing fertility treatment. Lisa has been with RMACT for eleven years and serves as Patient Advocate and the Strategic Content Lead.

Lisa is the teacher and founder of Fertile Yoga, a program designed to support men and women on their quest for their families through gentle movement and meditation.

Lisa’s true passion is supporting patients getting into treatment, being able to stay in treatment and staying whole and complete throughout the process. Lisa is also a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, which is helpful in her work with fertility patients.

Her experience also includes working with RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and The American Fertility Association (now Path2Parenthood), where she was Educational Coordinator, Conference Director and Assistant Executive Director.
