Top Infertility Doctor Talks About A Cancer Diagnosis & Fertility Preservation

Fertility Preservation | CancerNatural Nutmeg published a wonderful piece about fertility preservation, written by Dr. Joshua Hurwitz. As October is breast cancer awareness month, this article is particularly timely.

What can you do to avoid needing the cancer article? Is there really anything? The answer is yes. Absolutely yes. Will it prevent you from ever getting cancer? Who knows. What we do know is that taking control in the ways that we can is empowering. Here are just a few, simple cancer avoiding suggestions.

Healthy Lifestyle Tips

1. Get checked regularly. Whatever that might mean for you. For some of us who are considered high risk for cancer, through family history or our own history, be on top of the recommended screening testing. Although it's breast cancer month, for you, this reminder might be to go to the dermatologist and have that mole you've been watching checked out. Or it might mean scheduling your mammogram or even discussing an ultrasound.

2. Don't ignore things! Infertility can take over our lives, and certainly our attention. If you have a pain or illness that isn't going away in the prescribed amount of time that it should, make an appointment with your general practitioner or internist.

3. See your general practitioner once a year. Don't have one? Get one. It's always easier to establish a relationship with a doctor when there is no crisis. So don't wait for one. Get referrals and make an appointment so that you have someone to see when you need them.

4. Check reputable sources for lifestyle suggestions. Could you be doing a better job taking care of yourself? That's a rhetorical question, because the answer is almost always yes. See about fine tuning your food, exercise and sleep. Sleep is often the last frontier about our health that needs to be addressed.

Will any of these suggestions keep you from getting cancer? Who knows? Will being aware of your own health create a healthier you? Absolutely.
