We Are With You | A Message From RMA of CT Director of Mental Health Services

March 19th, 2020 | 2 min. read

By Lisa Schuman, LCSW

We are with you.

Many of you may be receiving devastating news from your fertility clinics. No spouses in the procedure rooms. Suspended cycles. Postponed family building.

In fact, you may have heard that the CDC, the federal and local governments, the American College of Gynecology, and American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) have all been suggesting or mandating new policies, like suspending elective surgeries or even halting new cycles. There are many brilliant minds focusing on the greatest good for all when decisions are made.

But that doesn't mean it makes it any easier for any one of us.

Many have been in that difficult place for a long time and others have just started their fertility journey, perhaps reluctantly, but with the aim of doing what it takes to build your family. And now you must stop.

While we can’t change this fact, and we can’t change COVID-19, we can be here for you.

The only thing that is worse than sadness is sadness and isolation. It makes everything worse and can lead to a deepening of your already sad feelings. So, cry, have a tantrum, lay in bed for a while, punch your pillow…and then connect with us.

We will hold your hand in any way possible.

Here are some options for connection:

We will continue to provide other offerings through our website and newsletter.

If we are missing anything or you have a suggestion for another way to receive support, please reach out to us.

Sending a virtual hand hold,

Lisa
