How the ERA Fertility Test Helps Patients Overcome Unexplained Infertility
Mark Leondires, MD, Medical Director of RMACT (Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut) has precisely the same goal as the people who come and see him for help- to help build their family. As a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist (fertility expert), people are coming to him for help because they have not been successful in conceiving a child on their own.
Keeping in mind the definition of infertility: "Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term after 12 months of trying to conceive" – Resolve: The National Infertility Association. Resolve goes on to state that twelve month period is reduced to six months when the woman's age is over thirty five.
Endometrial Receptivity Array ERA Test
Addressing the second part of the definition, "carrying a pregnancy to term", the Connecticut Post published an article just this past weekend (March 11, 2017) that included information on an important tool that Dr. Leondires has been using to help people who have been unsuccessful using fertility treatment protocols to conceive. This tool is ERA or Endometrial Receptivity Array. ERA more narrowly and accurately defines the window of time where implantation of an embryo in the uterus is going to occur.
Jessica Fascarelli describes the heartbreak of infertility: "What made the string of unsuccessful conception attempts even more heartbreaking was that there was no explanation for why Frascarelli was having such a hard time. “It was baffling,” she said. “I had beautiful eggs. They were making beautiful embryos. Everything was perfect, perfect, perfect.”
ERA Test Can Help Unexplained Infertility
Unexplained infertility, where a definite diagnosis cannot be made, is frustrating for both patient and medical caregiver. Dr. Leondires states “Every fertility doctor is very passionate about helping patients achieve pregnancy,” Leondires said. “It’s very devastating not to have answers” for why someone isn’t conceiving.”
The ERA test that Dr. Leondires used to help the Frascarellis finally become pregnant and deliver a baby made all the difference. In their situation, this specific test was the crucial piece that ended their two year, four IVF cycle journey with success, their children.
If you are having trouble conceiving, getting appropriate and expert medical attention can dramatically improve your choices of having the family you are dreaming of- remember that there is help available to you.
