How Fertility Acupuncture May Enhance Treatment Success

Acupuncture | Fertility Treatment

Acupuncture & FertilityAt Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT), we understand that the process of trying to have a baby when things are not going “according to plan” can be extremely stressful and upsetting. We believe that the use of complementary therapies (yoga, acupuncture, psychotherapy, mind/body relaxation techniques) can greatly benefit those undergoing fertility treatments by decreasing stress, as well as improving coping skills and overall well-being.

Acupuncture has been used by Eastern practitioners for thousands of years to enhance fertility, and can be used as a complement to modern day fertility treatment. In traditional acupuncture, ultra-thin needles are inserted into key points along the surface of the body to regulate the body’s Qi (life force). By unblocking and regulating the flow of Qi, skilled acupuncturists work to restore balance and health, improve blood flow, promote relaxation, relieve pain, and improve bodily function. Laser acupuncture is based on the same strategy as traditional acupuncture, but uses light energy instead of needles to regulate Qi. RMACT is the only fertility clinic in Connecticut that offers both traditional and needle-free laser acupuncture as a part of overall treatment for fertility.

Encouraging News Regarding Acupuncture & Fertility

There has been encouraging news regarding acupuncture and fertility success. Medical studies indicate that women treated with acupuncture directly before and after embryo transfer may be more likely to conceive. In one study of 160 women, 42.6% of those treated with acupuncture before and after an embryo transfer became pregnant, versus 26.3% of women who were not treated with acupuncture. In addition, a recent clinical study at RMACT showed that the use of laser acupuncture before and after embryo transfer during an IVF cycle improves a woman’s chances of implantation by up to 15 percent. For more information on laser acupuncture please speak with your RMACT physician, nurse or patient navigator.
