Fertile Yoga and Ladies Night In: A Winning Combination

Fertile Yoga CTIt's always good to try something new. And when you put two winners together, well, you get a super winner.

Why didn't we think of this years ago? Combining Ladies Night In--RMACT's peer support group--and Fertile Yoga.

Ladies Night In was thought of and put into action about three years ago. The brainchild of Carrie Van Steen, the group meets twice a month. Once in Danbury, once in Norwalk. Carrie and I lead the group through laughter, tears, conversation and inspiration. It never fails to provide a safe environment for talking and sharing and last night was no exception.

Except last night we tried something new.

Trying Fertile Yoga First

We did Fertile Yoga first. Fertile Yoga was created by me five years ago, intended specifically for men and women who were trying to conceive and encountering difficulty. Even more specifically for men and women in fertility treatment. There are different needs and considerations to practicing yoga while in treatment, given the fertility medications, procedures and even surgeries. Fertile Yoga accomodates those needs and offers stress reduction and relaxation in a remarkably stressful and unrelaxed time.

Fertile Yoga, dinner, an introduction to Ladies Night In. The relaxation that Fertile Yoga offered brought a different atmosphere to Ladies Night In. There was a feeling of already knowing one another, even though some had never met before.

So, we yoga'd, we ate, we talked, we cried, we laughed. Even after two plus hours of talking, (plus an hour of Fertile Yoga), our ladies were standing in the parking lot chatting. 9:45 p.m. on a Thursday night!

Here's a funny tid bit from last night. A new alphabet soup phrase. You know. IVF stands for in vitro fertilization. IUI stands for intrauterine insemination.

Here's the new one.

OK. If you know what it stands for or you just want to take a guess, write in and let me know. I'm thinking it will be very amusing what you all come up with.

Dr's Leonidires, Richlin, Hurwitz, Murdock, Williams? Want to take a guess? Guaranteed to make you laugh!

I'll let you know the answer on Monday. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, Fertile Yoga tonight from 6-7:15 p.m. in Brookfield, CT, at Yogaspace (a gorgeous studio!), 777 Federal Road. Right next door to Pancho's and Gringo's.
