Identified (Known) Egg Donation

identified-egg-donation1Identified donors (or “known donors”) are typically family members or close friends of the recipient who have offered to donate their eggs. Just as with all other egg donors, identified egg donors must undergo medical, genetic and psychological evaluations before they are accepted into the RMACT egg donation program. We strictly follow the screening guidelines established by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the United States Food and Drug Administration.

The egg donor candidate and her partner (if applicable) will meet with RMACT’s team to learn all about the egg donation process. This includes a review of the steps involved in egg donation, and the emotional, psychosocial, ethical and legal issues related to egg donation. Counseling is crucial in evaluating the potential donor’s well-being and comfort level with the unique issues related to be an egg donor for a family member or friend.

After completing the review process, donor candidates undergo a series of tests to make sure they are in good medical health. This includes a physical exam by a RMACT physician or physician assistant as well as laboratory and genetic testing.

Recipient couples will also have a psychological consultation with Lisa Tuttle, PhD, to discuss their decision to use this particular identified donor and the short- and long-term psychosocial issues related to this decision.
