Who becomes an Egg Donor?

The women who become egg donors at Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut are known as "Dreammakers" because they help to make the dream of a baby come true for infertile women by providing them with the chance to experience pregnancy and childbirth firsthand. To date, hundreds of "Dreammakers" have successfully completed the egg donation process at RMACT.

Our entire medical team is committed to making each egg donor's experience as comfortable and convenient as possible. We facilitate the egg donation process by providing all the necessary screening, tests and medications, and by handling every aspect of the egg retrieval procedure.

The Process of Becoming an Egg Donor

To become an egg donor at RMACT, you must be between the ages of 21 and 32 and meet certain health criteria. The first step in the donation process is to submit a recent photo and complete a detailed questionnaire, which is reviewed by the Egg Donation Team to determine if it is appropriate that you continue with the donor screening process.

You will be contacted by our Donor Egg Coordinator as to the status of your questionnaire. At this initial step, your completed questionnaire is kept confidential and is only viewed by the Egg Donation Team. If it is determined by the team that you are a suitable candidate to becoming an egg donor, you will be contacted to schedule a visit to one of our offices to undergo a series of medical, laboratory and psychological screening tests. The purpose of this visit is to provide you with information about the program and the medical procedures involved in becoming an egg donor, and to help you decide if you feel comfortable moving forward.

The testing provides our clinical team with the results and history they need to determine if egg donation is something that is physically and emotionally appropriate for you. The egg donation process, which includes a series of tests, office visits, procedures and follow-up monitoring, can last up to three months. Donors can schedule many appointments at any of our locations in Connecticut - Cos Cob, Danbury or Norwalk. Egg donors at RMACT can remain anonymous and are compensated $8,000 for their time and commitment to completing the program.

Approved egg donors are treated with commonly used fertility medications. The eggs are retrieved in an out-patient surgical procedure at RMACT's Norwalk office. After the procedure, donors typically have one follow-up visit with our medical team. Donors are compensated at the completion of the program.
